Summer Day Camps Are For Everyone

Summer is right around the corner and parents are wondering what to do with their kids being at home all day. Kids are thinking already about the boring days that stretch before them before they return to school. The answer to both these dilemmas are summer day camps. These programs run in short days for the younger set to full days for the older. Plus, there is extended care for those children whose parents work all day.

Summer camps go back over one hundred years in the YMCA system. In days gone by off from school may have meant spending time with relatives or friends, depending on where you lived. For the city kid living on a farm or in the country was an exciting prospect. For the country child the excitement of the city held sway. But times have changed and so have summer options.

Today you can find a day program almost anywhere and everywhere. From nature camps that focus on learning about the environment and how to protect it to science camps that are as varied as the subject. These programs are set up in cities everywhere.

Looking for an alternative to summer school but hope to keep the mental skills of your child sharp, a summer program may just fit the bill. Of course there are camps that keep your kids overnight for weeks at a time but they can be very expensive. Ones that run during daylight hours and return your child every night come in all sizes, shapes and prices. Most everyone can afford and enjoy this alternative for summer fun.

If your child is a computer wiz or just wants to be there are computer classes that will fill his day learning all the complicated skills he desires. Perhaps your child is a piano virtuoso or some other instrument, then the music programs are just what they will enjoy. Have a great singer or conductor in your family, there lessons for them as well.

Animal lovers will find programs that suit their fancy in local zoos and marine parks. Offering a variety of classes that range from learning about animals to how to teach them to do tricks. Many times they may even be allowed to get into the water with the local residence. Nocturnal classes may also be offered.

If you live in the city your community center will most likely be open too. These often have a swimming pool, art room, multimedia lab, a dance studio, and gym. If your city is large enough it may also boast of a theater, and private classrooms. Some activities offered in these classes will include gym sports, karate, and special events. You can find day camps that help your child prepare for school sports including golf, baseball, soccer, and football and even cheer leading.

The old stand by camp is still available. You know, the ones that offer outdoor safety skills while taking children on hikes, telling stories, learning songs and gathering around campfires. Summer day camps come in all sizes and shapes. Whether enjoying the great outdoors or gathering inside community sites, children will enjoy arts and crafts and a myriad of pleasures while making new friends during school recess.

Find just the right camp for your son or daughter. Whether it’s music summer camps Orange County or the summer camp San Diego at your local elementary school, your choices are many.
