    The voice box is a grouping of muscles, ligaments and cartilage and is also is known as the larynx. Changing position of the larynx will affect the quality of the tone, making it more rich or nasality. Try the difference between these two tones by first saying ahhh, that lets the air out and makes the larynx come down. Then say the word nay and you can feel how the larynx moves upward. There is a difference in how sound quality is developed and this two sounds will either give you a long length or shorter length in carrying a tone.

A good position of the larynx to get a quality tone is in the middle which is a natural position and is controlled by the voice going up or down.

Important is to relax your shoulders and not force the chest up and out. To sway gently from side to side while singing is also very relaxing.
